Women Who Ride: A Q&A with Lisa Rocheleau, VP of the Great Lakes ATV Club
Recently, our Executive Director, Shari Black, had the pleasure of exploring the breathtaking trails of the Great Lakes ATV Club with MPP Bobbi Ann Brady.
During the ride, Shari was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional leadership and organization of Lisa Rocheleau, VP of the Great Lakes ATV Club. Lisa’s meticulous attention to detail ensured that everyone was well-prepared and cared for, both on and off the trails.
After the ride, Shari and the OFATV team caught up with Lisa to learn more about her.
Q: What drives your passion for ATV riding, and how has it shaped your approach to leadership within the Great Lakes ATV Club?
A: My passion for ATV riding is fueled by the exhilaration of navigating challenging trails and the joy of discovering new landscapes.
Riding allows me to experience the beauty of the outdoors from a different perspective. My genuine love for ATV riding fuels my enthusiasm, which I strive to share with others in the club. By leading with excitement and energy, I can inspire others to embrace the sport, try new things, and fully enjoy the experiences we create together.
Q: Balancing a full-time career with your role as VP of the club is no small feat. How do you stay motivated across these demanding responsibilities?
A: Balancing a full-time career with my role as VP of the club including being a parent is indeed challenging. It takes a lot of focus and energy to keep up with it all and also remain sane!
My passion, enthusiasm and dedication and the sense of accomplishment keeps me driven–qualities I hope I am fostering in my kids which also keep me motivated.
I draw energy from the camaraderie and shared passion of our members, the excitement of our events, and the knowledge that I’m helping to foster a thriving community.
Q: During our recent ride with MPP Bobbi Ann Brady, your organizational skills and leadership were evident. What experiences or challenges in your life have prepared you to excel in both areas?
A: Thank you for that compliment! I was very fortunate early on in my professional career to have many strong influential leaders mentoring me, but my solid foundation of organization and leadership came from growing up on the farm under the guidance of strong parents.
The work ethic instilled by my parents was foundational. They led by example, showing me the value of hard work, persistence, and dedication. This upbringing fostered a strong sense of discipline, adaptability and a commitment to seeing tasks through to completion, qualities that are crucial for effective leadership and organization.
These early life experiences have deeply influenced how I approach challenges, manage responsibilities, and lead others in various aspects of my life.
Q: Looking back on your journey with the Great Lakes ATV Club, what has been the most rewarding aspect of your involvement, and how do you hope to inspire others through your role?
A: Being part of a group that shares a passion for outdoor adventure and riding has allowed me to build lasting friendships and create memorable experiences.
Additionally, contributing to the club’s growth and organizing events has been particularly rewarding. Watching others enjoy the events we’ve planned, seeing new members feel welcomed, and knowing that I’ve played a role in making those moments possible gives me a deep sense of accomplishment.
Q: What upcoming projects or initiatives is the Great Lakes ATV Club looking forward to, and how can members and the community get involved?
A: Currently the club is working on a project to replace a floating bridge that has come into major disrepair causing a section of trail to be closed. When the time comes to build on site, we will be reaching out to our membership to provide their muscle or other technical skill to get this into place!
Also coming up in September we have a nighttime charity ride and BBQ planned where we collect donations for our local food bank.
